Discover the Revolutionary 2025 VW T7 Transporter and Caravelle

Volkswagen has unveiled the first official images of its newly developed T7 Transporter and Caravelle. Unlike its predecessors, the T7 is based largely on the Ford Tourneo/Transit Custom, evident especially at the rear. However, the front design retains the distinct VW aesthetic reminiscent of the T6.1.

A Broad Range of Options

The seventh-generation model series will be available in three van variants: estate, panel van, and flatbed, alongside the Caravelle (passenger transport). The new lineup boasts advanced turbo diesel, plug-in hybrid, and electric drives, with an optional all-wheel-drive system.

Extensive Model Lineup

Volkswagen’s future offerings will include the Transporter and Caravelle, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo, the Multivan, and the new California, providing an unmatched variety of choices.

Launch and Pricing

The new Transporter will debut in Germany in early 2025, with the panel van starting at €36,780 and the flatbed van with crew cab at €39,130 (net prices). Customers benefit from a price guarantee until delivery next year.

Model Variants

Versatile Configurations

Volkswagen offers the new Transporter in multiple configurations, including:

  • Panel Van: Ideal for goods transport.
  • Panel Van Plus: Combines goods and passenger transport with a second row of seats.
  • Estate: Designed for passenger transport.
  • Crew Cab: A platform body with a long wheelbase, setting it apart from its Ford counterpart.

The estate and panel vans are available with optional high roofs and extended wheelbases.

The Caravelle: Ultimate Passenger Transport

The Caravelle, featuring nine seats, is perfect for commercial passenger transport, making it an ideal shuttle or large-capacity taxi. It comes in basic, mid-range “Life”, and top-tier “Style” trim levels, with an extended wheelbase option available.

The Robust PanAmericana

For those needing a rugged vehicle, the PanAmericana offers all-terrain design and exclusive features, available in the new generation based on the Transporter and Caravelle.

Advanced Drive Systems

Turbo Diesel Engines

The new range includes the latest TDI engines with power outputs of 110 PS, 150 PS, and 170 PS.

Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Drives

The newly developed plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) offers a system output of 232 PS. Upcoming electric drives will offer 136 PS, 218 PS, and 286 PS with a 64 kWh battery capacity. A lower-power electric version with a smaller battery will be available for urban delivery use.

Drive Options

The TDI and eHybrid models feature front-wheel drive, with optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive for the 150 PS TDI variant. Electric models have rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive version planned for later. The 170 PS TDI comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard, which is optional for the 150 PS TDI. Automatic transmission is standard for the plug-in hybrid and electric models.

Interior Innovations

High-Tech Cockpit

The seventh generation starts via a button next to the 12-inch digital instruments and 13-inch infotainment display. The multifunction steering wheel features easy-to-use buttons, with the volume controlled via the wheel or a classic rotary knob. The handbrake lever is replaced by a dashboard switch.

Practical Features

A space-saving steering column selector lever improves access to the load or passenger compartment. The centre console includes large cup holders and additional storage compartments, enhancing daily usability. The dashboard’s high, clearly organised layout and optimised controls reflect the typical Transporter design.

Dimensions and Load Capacity

Expanded Dimensions

The new Transporter measures 5,050 mm in length (146 mm longer than the T6.1) with a 3,100 mm wheelbase (97 mm longer). An optional extended wheelbase increases the overall length to 5,450 mm. The exterior width is 2,032 mm (excluding mirrors), with a maximum width between the wheel arches of 1,392 mm, allowing easy storage of Euro pallets.

Increased Load Volume

The load compartment length on the floor is 2,602 mm with a normal wheelbase, increasing to 3,002 mm with an extended wheelbase. The Transporter’s largest stowage volume now reaches 5.8 cubic metres, or up to 9.0 cubic metres with a long wheelbase and high roof. It can accommodate up to six passenger seats and various partition walls.

Electrical Features

Comprehensive Power Supply

The interior features various power interfaces, including USB-A, USB-C, and 12V sockets. Optional 230V device connections are available, providing up to 2,300 Watts of power. Diesel versions include a 230V socket on the driver’s seat frame, with additional sockets available for electric drive vans.

Payload and Towing Capacity

Maneuverability and Capacity

Despite its dimensions, the new van, with a height under 2.0 metres, fits into standard multi-storey car parks. It boasts a tight turning circle of just 11.8 metres. The maximum payload is up to 1.33 tonnes, with the capability to tow trailers up to 2.8 tonnes.

Enhanced Equipment

Standard Features

The new Transporter models come with enhanced standard equipment, including LED headlights and tail lights, an electronic parking brake, 12-inch digital instruments, and a 13-inch infotainment system with DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and online services. Additional features include a multifunction steering wheel, keyless start, rain sensor, Lane Assist, Front Assist, and traffic sign recognition.

Caravelle Highlights

The Caravelle, with nine seats, is ideal for large-capacity taxis or shuttles. The base version includes a removable three-seater bench, upgraded seat fabrics, side and curtain airbags, and a 10-speaker audio system. The mid-range “Life” trim adds painted exterior elements, air conditioning, and additional USB ports. The “Style” trim features a unique front section, LED matrix headlights, and privacy glazing, along with advanced interior features and optional upgrades like a panoramic roof and Harman Kardon sound system.

PanAmericana Details

The PanAmericana version, designed for tough conditions, features robust exterior panelling, grained bumpers, and a painted radiator grille. The interior includes exclusive seat fabrics and high-quality finishes. The Caravelle PanAmericana comes with 19-inch “Indianapolis” alloy wheels as standard, with 4MOTION all-wheel drive available as an option.

The 2025 VW T7 Transporter and Caravelle set new standards in versatility, advanced drive systems, and practical features. With a wide range of configurations and enhanced equipment, these models are poised to meet diverse needs, from commercial transport to passenger shuttles.
